Cristian Florea

Cristian Florea, Master of Arts from the Republic of Moldova, is a cello player, a conductor, an artistic manager, a teacher and entrepreneur and a European artist in every sense.

Cristian Florea began studying the cello under the guidance of his teacher Gerhard Miess at the Music and Plastic Arts high school in Sibiu, his birth town.

In 1969 he becomes a pupil of the “George Enescu” Music High School in Bucharest where he studied cello with professors Ilie Iliescu and Josip Caleff and chamber music with Luminița Ghencea.

Soon he is launched in the Romanian competitive and artistic world; as such at the High School Arts Competition he receives 1st Place for chamber music and at 15 he has his debut at the Romanian Athenaeum, performing the Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in A minor by C. Saint-Saens. At the right time he became a student of the ,,C.Porumbescu” Conservatory, at the present the National Music University in Bucharest where he studied under the guidance of: George Iarosevici, Serafim Antropov, Aurel Niculescu, Paul and Irina Staicu, George Halmoș, Wilhelm Berger.

He manages to study with Professor Marçal Cervera and he receives the gradation of honorat the Music Conservatory in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. His studies abroad offer the opportunity of learning from great artists which will influence his future development: Pierre Fournier, Sandor Vegh, Isaac Stern, Enric Casals , Stefan Popov.

He was always tempted by the baton, therefore, in 1986, he fulfilled one of his dreams by founding the Freiburg Chamber Orchestra. After 1989 he became the artistic director and the conductor of the Sibiu State Philharmonic; a period during which he actively organized the infrastructure for the musical centers “Hermania” and “Thalia Hall”. In 1992 founded the European Symphonic Orchestra and since then, on a yearly basis, he has implemented different projects: “New Year’s Concert”, “Film Music” and extraordinary concerts with great artists: Jose Carreras, Montserrat Caballe, Teresa Berganza, Placido Domingo, Ainoah Arteta…

At the present he is the chief conductor of the National Chamber Orchestra of the Republic of Moldova, an ensemble which he also conducted during the 2011 “George Enescu” International Festival followed by invitations for special musical events – Concert at the Cotroceni palace etc.
