8th International Conducting Competition
Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest
STATUTE
This project represents the implementing in Romania, by ELITE ART Club UNESCO (in its capacity as sole Romanian representative of Jeunesses Musicales International http://jmi.net/), of the conducting competition initiated by Jeunesses Musicales International, one of the most renowned and appreciated classical music competitions for young people in the world, with a history of over 50 years.
The aim of the International Conducting Competition Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest is to create opportunities for young musicians from all over the world in order to increase their participation in the European institutions of creation. As such, the performance opportunities offered by the International Conducting Competition Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest will promote not only music and young talents but will naturally lead to a significant circulation of the artistic works and cultural products.
In addition to its main goal, the competition wishes to stimulate mutual interaction and create a real dialogue between the young musicians which will permit them to learn from one another, to discover not only their own abilities but also facts about their socio-cultural past thus promoting intercultural dialogue.
The general objective of the International Conducting Competition Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest is to ensure transborder collaboration among young people: through the competition’s program and all the included events we wish to create a meeting and interpretation space with as many participants as possible, from different environments thus leading to awareness regarding cultural diversity and strengthening the intercultural dialogue.
Junping Qian, China
1st Prize
Junping Qian is currently studying orchestra conducting at the Musik Hochschule Hanns Eisler in Berlin. In 2012 he won the Delun Li China National Conducting Competition. He graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music in 2013 and the Middle School Affiliated to the Shanghai Conservatory in 2009.
He has studied conducting with Mark Gibson at the University of Cincinnati and with Michael Jinboat at the Pierre Monteux Conducting School in Maine. He was a private student of the legendary pedagogue Otto Werner Mueller. The British Conductor Daniel Harding has been his mentor since 2014.
He made his debut with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra in 2009 with Dvorak’s symphony no.9. He made his European conducting debut at the Verbier Festival in the summer of 2012.
He is an achieved violist, and has received numerous prizes and scholarships, such as the 2nd prize in the 2006 Washington Johansen International Competition, 1st prize in the 2007 China National Viola Competition, etc. As a violist he has performed all over the world in the most prestigious concert halls. In the summer of 2016, he quit his tutti position in the Swedish Radio Symphony in Stockholm.
Since moving to Europe in 2015, he has conducted orchestras such as Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt (oder), die Neubrandengurger Philharmonie, Berlin Sinfonietta, St.Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic. In 2017, he became the resident conductor of the Berlin Diplomatic Choir.
Nil Venditti, Italy
2nd Prize
Nil Venditti won the first prize in the Claudio Abbado National Conducting Competition. She has a diploma in cello at the Morlacchi Conservatory in Perugia. Under the guidance of Maestro Francesco Pepicelli she has attended numerous masterclasses in Italy and abroad with distinguished cellists such as Mario Brunello, Enrico Dindo and Umberto Clerici.
In 2013 she enrolled for a conducting degree at the A. Casella conservatory in L’Aquila, under the guidance of Maestro Marcello Bufalini. She attended masterclasses with Peter Gulke, Donato Renzetti, Fabrizio D’Orsi, Maestro Marco, Maestro Riccardo Muti, Windfuhr, Gianluigi Gelmetti.
Nil conducted the JuniOrchestra in various important occasions such as the Christmas concert at the Montecitorio in 2014 and the concert at the Quirinale for the European festival of women in 2015. Nil has worked with the Sinfonica Abruzzese and she conducted at the renowned Reate Festival of Rieti. She has conducted Andrea Oliva and Di Rosa, first flute and first oboe of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, in a series of concerts throughout Italy.
Nil was one of the 10 conductors selected to participate in July 2016 at the Gstaad Music Festival in Switzerland with Maestro Jaarvi where she conducted soloists who had won the International Tchaikowsky Competition. In January 2017, Nil conducted Andrea Conti, first trombone of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and the Perugia Chamber Orchestra. They played music by Nino Rota and in a world premiere Nil conducted a suite by Enrico Bindocci.
Masane Ota, Japan
3rd prize
Masane was born in Japan, to a family of musicians. He started playing violin at the age of three, and won his the first competition at ten. He studied at the Tokyo University of the Arts (GEIDAI). In 2006, he became the concertmaster of the Japan Century Symphony Orchestra. He worked with Seiji Ozawa, Riccardo Muti, Yuri Bashmet, Marta Argerich and Pieter Wispelwey. In 2007 he attended the Rohm Music Foundation program to study conducting with Seiji Ozawa and Yuji Yuasa. After that, he was chosen by Master Ozawa for an internship.
He’s been living in Munich since 2010, and in 2012 he enrolled at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden where he studied with Prof. Georg Christoph Sandmann.
He made his debut conducting The Firebird with the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra in June 2014.
He also conducted the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra for Untitled Concert, the most famous and prestigious classical music TV program in Japan.
In 2013 he attended The Lovro and Lilly Matacic Foundation Program, and he was chosen to conduct during the final concert by Sir Collin Metters. He was a semi-finalist at the 9th Fitelberg International Conducting Competition in Katowice in 2012 and he received the price for the Best Japanese Conductor. He has attended a masterclass with Daniel Harding.
Alexandru Mihai Ilie, Romania
Prize for the Best Romanian Conductor
In 2011 he graduated from the National Univeristy of Music in Bucharest in the class of Maestro Petru Andriesei, and two years later he graduated from the Conducting Stilistics Department of the same institution, where he got a Master’s degree at Maestro Horia Andreescu’s class. He has worked with numerous Maestros, during Masterclasses and various projects: Christian Badea, Enrique Garcia Asensio (2012 and 2013), Jin Wang, Mark Stringer, David Crescenzi.
Internationally, in 2016 he became a semi-finalist in the International Conducting Competition Felix Mendelssohn, finishing 5th in a total of 240 participants.
His activity also encompasses managerial activities; Alexandru is a founder and co-founder of the Intermezzo Camerata, the Royal Choir, the Metropolitan Orchestra and Choir, the Cervantes Chamber Orchestra and the Blue Symphony.
Alexandru Ilie has sustained internships at the Romanian Broadcasting Network, the National Theater in Bucharest and the National Opera in Bucharest. Among the orchestras he works with we can recall: the Oltenia Philharmonic – Craiova, the Pitesti Philharmonic, the Ploiesti Philharmonic, the Royal Camerata, The Brasov Opera Orchestra, the Youth Orchestra in Iasi, the Transylvania Philharmonic – Cluj, the Banat Philharmonic – Timişoara, the Ion Dumitrescu Philharmonic – Rm. Vâlcea, the Romanian Opera Craiova, the Muntenia – Targoviste Philharmonic, the National Youth Orchestra of Moldova and since February 2017 he is a permanent collaborator of the Children’s Comic Opera in Bucharest.
