Proms of Delight – Christmas Edition, Sibiu

ELITE ART Club UNESCO announces a new concert in Sibiu, that will take place following the impressive results of the International Conducting Competition of Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest – the 6th edition of this year.

Proms of Delight – Christmas Edition will be held on 20 December 2015 at the Thalia Hall of Sibiu, starting at 7.00 p.m. and will include famous Christmas arias and works. The concert is dedicated to all classical music lovers and offers the public the opportunity to hear a number of original orchestrations of some national and international Christmas carols, thus inviting the audience in a special journey.

Proms of Delight – Christmas Edition marks in a unique setting, the end of the “International Conducting Competition of Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest” project – sixth edition, that took place at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest on 22-26 September 2015.

The event will be conducted by Vlad Vizireanu – winner of the prize for best romanian ranked participant at this year’s edition of the competition. Special quest for this concert are the soloist Irina Baiant (soprano at the “Ion Dacian” National Operetta and Musical Theatre of Bucharest) and the soloist Cristian Mogosan (tenor at the National Opera in Cluj), along with the members of the Sibiu State Philharmonic Orchestra.

The access to the concert is free and over 500 spectators are expected to take part.

The event is organized by ELITE ART Club UNESCO and financed by the EEA Financial Mechanism 2009-2014, the PA17 / RO13 “Promoting diversity in culture and art in the European cultural heritage” Programme.

Vlad Vizireanu

Soprano

Described as a conductor with “ample gestures, clarity, precision, and genuine passion,” Vlad Vizireanu has made his mark as one of this generation’s finest young conductors.

This year he won the best-ranked Romanian participant in the International Conducting Competition Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest, 6th Edition – the only international competition in Romania dedicated to young conductors and the only one recognized by the Jeunesses Musicales international network.

Vizireanu currently serves as Assistant Conductor for the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic (USA) and Intermediate Orchestra Conductor for New West Symphony’s Harmony Project (USA), which is aimed at inspiring young children to develop a lifelong love of music through education and exciting musical experiences. He also serves as Artistic Director for Enescu & The Americas, an organization that fosters cultural exchange between Romania and the United States through the music of Romania’s greatest composer, George Enescu.

Vizireanu was also a semifinalist in the 2013 Solon Michaelides Competition and 2013 marked his operatic debut with the ASU Lyric Opera Theater in a production of Die Fledermaus.

Irina Baianț

Soprano

Her participation in various musical competitions brought her awards such as the First Prize in the National Festival and Lied Interpretation Contest „Ionel Perlea” (2010), Second Prize in the „Mihail Jora” National Contest (2010), First Prize in the „Paul Constantinescu” National Competition (2010). In 2013 and 2014, she was the Winner of the International Singing Competition „Le Grand Prix de l’Opéra”, organized by the Bucharest National Opera.

She is currently collaborating with the Bucharest „Ion Dacian” Operetta and Musical Theatre where she is currently playing Daée Christine in the musical „Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Cristian Mogoșan

Tenor

Currently he is employed by the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca and he is also an associate professor at the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca (Romania).
His record includes: First Prize in the Romanian Lied Interpretation Contest – Brasov (2004), the Jury Prize in the „Ionel Perlea” National Contest for Vocal Interpretation – Slobozia (2004).

He played successful roles, such as Rodolfo in La Boheme by G. Puccini, Erik – Der fliegende Holländer by Richard Wagner, BF Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni by WA Mozart, Orpheus in Orphee aux Enfers by J. Offenbach.

He performed the role of Candide at the Romanian Opera in Cluj-Napoca in the 2007 national premiere of L.Bernstein’s opera, Candide. In 2009 he played in yet another national premiere the role of Tom Rockwell in The Rake’s Progress opera of I. Stravinsky. He also interpreted Cassio in G.Verdi’s Otello, Pang in Turandot by G. Puccini, Trabucco in La forza del Destino by G. La Verdi and Spoletta in Tosca – Puccini. During the Cluj Modern Festival (2007), he starred in Buddy from C.F.R. by Răzvan Metea.

State Philharmonic Orchestra

Sibiu

On the 1st of January1949 the Sibiu State Philharmonic was founded – a professional institution created in order to sustain concerts. Throughout its 50 years of existence as a state institution it has performed thousands of symphonic and opera music concerts, thus assimilating a vast symphonic and lyrical repertoire.

Over the years, in collaboration with the Sibiu orchestra, it organized important concerts which featured famous Romanian and foreign artists, as, for example: Ion Voicu, Valentin Gheorghiu, Ștefan Ruha (Romania), Monique de la Bruchollerie and Jean Jaques Thiollier (France), Sviatoslav Richter, Rudolf Kerer, Lazar Berman, Dimitri Baskirov (Russia), Ivry Gittlis (Switzerland), Monserrat Caballe (Spain).

The new headquarters of the Sibiu State Philharmonic – Thalia Hall was officially inaugurated with the 9th Symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven, during the concert which took place in October 7, 2004.
